Haweli is one of the best indian restaurants on the costa blanca that I have been to. It is as simple as that. When I first tried it some five years ago I was blown away by the quality of the food. Curry is my favourite dish, and like most of us Brits, I like to think I am an expert. Everyone has their favourite dish: Chicken Tikka, Rogan Josh etc, and they are all here in Haweli, and just as you remember them.

The spices are pungent and aromatic. The herbs fresh and fragrant. In all the dishes you can pick out familiar flavours: finely chopped ginger, crushed garlic, luscious tomatoes and fresh leaf coriander in abundance. The list is endless. You will find all your favourites.

As well as traditional currys in varying degrees of hotness, Madras and Vindaloos there are Bhunas with their mix of dried spices fried with onions, ginger, garlic, tomatoes and coriander, Tikka Masalas ladled with rich almond sauces, Dhansaks with added ingredients of lentils and lemon juice, and Jalfrezis containing freshly fried bell peppers and tomatoes.

I have no one favourite as I eat them all! Especially at the incredible value buffet which the restaurant runs on Wednesdays from 7pm and Sunday all day at a giveaway €12.90. Or if you fancy a set lunch then only €7.90 from Monday to Friday you'll get a choice of five starters, eight main courses and home made indian dessert. If you are vegetarian there are four vegetarian main courses to choose from as well.

Try one of the chef's recommended dishes while you are there. Chicken with curry sauce infused with fresh mango, or have the Tandori Chilli Chicken which gives a twist to the traditional clay oven cooked Tandori cuisine by adding a sweet slightly hot sauce.

The restaurant is easy to find behind Lidl roundabout in Albir, opposite the Albir Playa Hotel, and it has an expansive sun trap terrace.

Open every day from 12.30 - 4.30 and 7 till late.
